Guard Dogs

They have now became Kiefer's guard dogs cos they now mostly sleep right outside the baby room instead of their usual nap place. Bobbe would give us a woof when Kiefer cries, while Phoebe will bark when Im carrying Kiefer in the room. Strangely, Kiefer is not affected by the loud barkings but will get frightened by sound of plastic bags ruffling or closing of drawers. I wonder if it's because Kiefer got used to the barkings during the past 9 months in the womb.

Kiefer Has Arrived!

My waterbag leaked on 9 April so Kiefer arrived 2 days earlier! You can never imagine holding a life that was inside you for 9 months & then he is right before you now. Here's a photo of our family ...

When I got home after missing for 3 days, Bobbe & Phoebe went crazy. After settling down the baby & nanny, I noticed Bobbe's change. He was always moody & refused to play with Phoebe. Phoebe is as usual happy-go-lucky but she still displayed her jealousy but making attempts to jump on me with Kiefer in my arms. Bobbe would stay in one corner where he can see me breastfeeding Kiefer. At times, Bobbe would sit outside the baby room & give a woof whenever Kiefer cries. We felt that Bobbe is sad that I'm not cuddling him as often as before & now there's Kiefer in my arms most of the time. Daddy has took on a more active role & giving them more attention. Now, I fixed a routine to spend time with Bobbe & Phoebe more physically just before a bath so my body & clothings are clean during breastfeeding. I hope that they will get used to the new member in the family soon.

It is said that the last stage of pregnancy prepares us for the intensive feeding time ahead ... that's why I have not been sleeping well for a month ... imagine all that aches, frequent toilet visits, heartburns, water retention, major movements from Kiefer at nights etc! Thank god, we are counting down 9 days from now til the scheduled c-section date 11 April, which is next Wed!!

The toy "baby" training seems to work for Bobbe cos he's no longer interested & excited abt it. But for Phoebe, she is very jealous. She jumps & bit Bobbe's ear & paw whenever he's been carried by anyone! Although I managed to prevent her from jumping on the "baby", she will ambushed it by chewing the feet while I'm not looking!

Kiefer's room!

As the toy "baby" sat on my lap, Phoebe ambused it by sitting quietly & waiting for the right time to jump & bit its feet! Bobbe can't even be bothered by the "baby" now.

I just realised that there's this grooming studio nearby that provides free transportation for full grooming. At 8 months pregnant, I can barely walks without having pains & aches. So its great that Bark & Bubbles Pet Grooming Studio provides free transportation. And, when they send my furkids back, it's a nice surprise to find cute little scarfs on both of them!

Unfortunately, our cousins are put up for rehoming. They are preferably rehomed to a landed property because of their toilet & barking behaviour. Otherwise, you will face the same problem as Jones.

We thank those who offered toilet training advices but it's been 6 months of training so it would be most useful if you can refer someone to adopt Nemo & Lilo.

Superstition

Is superstition more important than seeing your loved one for the last time? Oh ok, it's a dead person. My grandpa passed away, jus abt 6 months after my granny. People say old couple whose very much in love always "go" together. I'm actually glad that grandpa has joined granny cos they are very close & grandpa has been depressed since she left. Chinese has a superstition that pregnant woman are not allowed to attend any unauspicious event eg, funeral, otherwise bad things might happen to the baby. But this is my grandpa, not any relative or friends. My MIL & hubby is quite particular abt this.

Since my MIL blames me for the "bad" fetal assessment test results, Im sure she wont hestitate to point the finger at me if Kiefer is born less perfect. And if I attend this funeral, she has better reason to accuse me again. Haiz ... I hate insensitive, unreasonable old folks. Hope I wont be one when Im old.

Do you believe that all things happened for a reason & sometimes it prepares you for something bigger ahead? Thinking back, it's been quite an emotional journey during my pregnancy. First, granny passed away, then the "bad" fetal assessment test result, now grandpa passed away too. While I keep myself happy & positive, I've also learnt how to look at things on a brighter side now.

Food Contamination??

Phoebe started vomiting greenish saliva & her stools are watery so I took her to see the vet. It was diagnosed as intestinal infection caused by food contamination. I find it puzzling cos both of them have been eating the same thing but Bobbe was not affected. Phoebe must have “vacuumed” something dirty from the ground & ate it. Vet gave her an injection with some medicine & advised a diet of porridge for 3 days cos the starch can help clear her intestine. I was also asked to check their treats for moulds & expiry date. And, never did I expect to see the packs of dried codfish & beef chews filled with Japanese text has got a tiny statement at the bottom saying “Refrigerate after opened”! I never tot dried treats will need to refrigerate so I’ve been keeping them on the shelf & feeding them for 2 weeks. Hmm, maybe Phoebe’s stomach is not “strong” as Bobbe, that’s why only she got the infection.

Prevention of Dog "Escaping"

Today, someone's beloved shih tzu ran away when another family member opened the door. I felt worried cos it's raining very heavily earlier & the poor dog must be cold & hungry.

I'm very sure I will chase my darlings back even with my 9 months belly but I can't say for my MIL cos she's old & have arthritis. We can't blame the dogs for being curious about what's outside the door & wanna run out to explore. Furthermore, my two rascals get very excited when anyone comes home & we might not be able to stop both of them from "escaping". So, I took this opportunity to share with you how I put up two pieces of the playpen to keep them away when we open or close the door. This two piece of thing cost only $10 each & for preventing such tragedy from happening, it is priceless. I hope the shih tzu will be rescued by a kind soul very very soon.

Creamy Butter Crab at Ang Mo Kio

We went to try the famous creamy butter crab at Blk 232, Ang Mo Kio Ave 3. It was unique cos of its sauce but not impressive to me. The thick bee hoon in crab broth was nice though. The sharksfin soup was quite nice too as you can taste the chunky crab meat in the thick broth. We queue for about 1.5 hours to get a table & waiting time for food to arrive is about 30mins. While waiting for the food, we were so hungry & ordered satay, rojak, chicken wings & probably lose all that appetite for the main dishes. In a small place like Singapore, we travel everywhere for good food, regardless of its poor service or waiting time. But this dinner does not impress me enough to go back again.

What 2007 Means to Me?

- 2007 will be a thrifty year because of the arrival of Kiefer, plus a 2nd one in the following hopefully, therefore my expenses have to cut down significantly.

- 2007 will be a challenging year because I will be personally taking care of Kiefer, holding on to my freelance business & at the same time, making sure I do not neglect Bobbe, Phoebe & 2 god-furkids - Nemo & Lilo.

- 2007 is a demoralising year because I felt fat & ugly but unable to slim down thoroughly because 2nd one will be in the plan soon after.

I have one resolution for 2007 - to become a super-mummy.

They Dun Like the Throwover

After I put the 'waterproofing" on the sofa, they have been pulling down the backing of the sofa to rest on top of it! I guessed they dun like the texture of the throwover cos its surface is abit rough. Spoilt dogs!!

First Close Encounter wif Kids

In fact, it is also Michelle & Jordan's first close encounter with dogs. At first, they panicked & ran away when Bobbe & Phoebe jumped on them. They were chased & got scared. I tried to let Bobbe & Phoebe take a good sniff at them, when they calmed down, the kids are more comfortable. Michelle & Jordan learnt not to panick & run when the dogs got too excited. By the end of the day, they are happily learning how to interact with Bobbe & Phoebe.

Waterproofing for sofa

We gotten a plastic sheet to lay underneath the throwover so in case Phoebe peed on the sofa again, the new cushions will not soak in the urine. If the 'waterproofing' method still does not work, Phoebe will be sold for $1200.00 so we can get a new sofa!! Hee.

Ear Mites!!!

I noticed a weird smell coming from Bobbe's left ear & he shakes his ears very often these 2 days. So I use a cotton bud to clean his ears & noticed the usual black substance, plus abit of blood. Today, i brought Bobbe to see the vet. I was shocked to know that the black substances resembling coffee grains are ear mites! I was told by my groomer that those were normal & always appear after washing ears!! Vet told me ear mites are caused by unsterillised tools used for cleaning ears. For the next 2 weeks, I have to wash their ears & put medicated solution for both of them cos Phoebe has it too!

How Fortunate ...

A cat was hiding underneath a chair along the corridor yesterday. She had been there since I left the house in the early afternoon. I ignored her as I'm afraid of cats. When we came back in the eveing, she's still there. So, we warmed up some food & milk. She immediately followed us as we laid the food down for her. She ate half the food but did not drink the milk. Then Peter brought her downstairs. Once the lift door opened, she ran off. The weather must be so cold that it drove her into the lift for warmth & brought her to 36th storey.

At 20th Week Pregnancy

Had my 5th month detail scan on Wed. There's no markers for down syndrome or physical abnormalities. Everything looks good. We felt so relieved now.

Gotten 10 bodysuits, 7 rompers, 7 sets of top & bottom ... even some nice clothings for his first month celebration! Baby clothings are so expensive nowadays, they are so fashionable & adult-like, I just can't resist the thought of dressing Kiefer up & looking all smart & handsome. I'm now banned from shopping for anymore newborn apparels.

The next thing I need to do is to get a human baby toy that can cry & laugh. I need to get Phoebe & Bobbe used to me giving attention & carrying the baby. Phoebe always tried to bite Bobbe's legs or ears whenever I carry him. I don't want her to do that to my baby. Recently, Phoebe is alot more sticky to me. She enjoys being carried by me & snuggling up to me.

Oh btw, Peter name our boy Kiefer Wang. It is pronounced as "key-fur" & it means gifted.

After staying at my brother's place for 1.5 months, we finally moved back home on Wed evening. Fortunately, they still remember where's the toilet. The evening before we left, Nemo & Lilo lets out a sharp barkings. I've never heard them barking like this before. Did they really know that we are moving back home? Will they miss Bobbe & Phoebe?

Once we reached home, MIL was so delighted. She said: " Oh I missed you (refering to the dogs)!" ... (me hair stands) ... she asked me if we had taken dinner ... I pretended I did not hear that & kept quiet. I really don't wish to talk to her. I really hope we just pretend we are tenants of this house & not cross the lines or paths again.

While I'm blogging here, I can hear her talking to Bobbe & Phoebe ... (hair standing again).

Bobbe: "Today is a lousy day. First, mummy went out early in the morning. We were so bored that we took one of the gift she wrapped last night, and chewed off the wrapper. I got canned for that cos i forgot to remove the "debris" off my muzzle. Then Phoebe ate her poo again ... darn, i hate tat nasty girl sleeping on my tummy with that stinky face! Mummy came back happily announcing to everyone "it's a boy! it's a boy!" ... im a boy, but Phoebe is a girl leh . Then mummy argued with Jones that we did not pee on the floor. I know Nemo & Lilo pee on the plastic floor & the urine seep onto the parquet floor & was soaked with urine. It had probably been there for 1-2 days. Then granny came back & everyone looked upset too. I'm lying low for tonight. Hmm, Phoebe's been very still & quiet too."

Phoebe: "Whenever mummy held me close to her face, i know im getting into trouble with the tasty poo poo again. Since she could smell the tasty poo in my breath, why won't she understands why i had to eat it? Mummy & Jones was arguing abt something. ... is when she's sleepy. Phoebe's a fearless little puppy. She jumps down from table & chairs. She cannot to sit still for 3 seconds, let alone sitting on your lap like a typical shih tzu. She enjoys chasing after Nemo & Lilo, jumps on them & bit their ears. When they turn around & try to pin her down, she gets away easily by wringling out from their paws, hide under the sofa, then ambush them once they turn their back. She totally enjoys making them chase her back. Her nickname is Energizer. She recharged quickily & her hyperactiveness wears everyone off. Sometimes, poor Bobbe surrenders by letting her chew his ears.

Change of Diet

The Pet Lovers Centre staff told me that there are 3 reasons why dogs eat their poo. (1) It could be hookworms present in their digestive system. The hookworms eat up their food & the dog will feel hungry so they end up eating their poo. (2) It could also be boredom, which I doubt both of them are. (3) Their homecooked meals lack nutrition, which prompts the dog to eat back their poo (strange, how dogs know poo are more nutrition ah??).

Anyway, I decided to have a mixed diet of homecooked meals & kibbles so that they will not lack of the necessary nutrients, especially a growing puppy like Phoebe. I tried Avoderm baked kibbles. Fortunately, they did not reject kibbles. But their poo stinks!!! Can u imagine Phoebe eating her stinky poo?!!

I'm so desperate & sick. The stinky poo made the morning sickness worse. I've tried Solid Gold SEP powder & it seems to work on Bobbe only. After the first pack of Avoderm, now I switched to Merricks. They seems to like this more! Bobbe eats quickly & even fights for his food which he usually don't.

Now, can anyone tell me why their poo stinks so bad?!! Issit the meat, the digestive system or what? ....

How She Might Treat My Kid

After staying at Jone's place for 2 weeks, I no longer feel sore abt the incident. I reflect on myself if I was too emotional & if I could still live with her. Then I remember some incidents where it happened on Bobbe & Phoebe.

INCIDENT 1
When I brought Phoebe back, MIL kept calling her Hippie. I guessed she must have heard wrongly so asked Peter to let her know it's pronounced as Phoebe, not Hippie. I joked that she better not call her grandchildren name wrongly in future. It was purely meant as a joke. She snapped back & said that if I had not use such a difficult name, she would not have pronounced wrongly.

INCIDENT 2
MIL asked me if eating those food everyday will bore them. I explained that dogs are different from human. There are many food that contains preservatives & flavourings that will harm dogs in the long run. After that, I noticed Bobbe eating lesser everyday. One fine day, Peter saw his mum feeding Bobbe with bread & kaya. Now, I suspect that she might have thought of adding some "additional" food for them because she thought they are bored.

INCIDENT 3
I always heat up their food in a toaster for 5mins, and bring it out to cool down for 5mins. MIL asked why don't I serve them the food when it's hot? I explained that they eat very fast & worried that they will hurt their tongue or mouth when the food is too hot. Despite explaining, she went ahead to serve them the food when it's piping hot because she thinks food should be eaten when it's hot!

INCIDENT 4
Phoebe is a very hyperactive rascal. She bit Bobbe's ears & tail, jumped on him when he's asleep, pull his ears & hair ... She also loves to bite our hands whenever we try to stroke her or chased after our feet when we walked. To deter such bad habit, I taught Peter & MIL to ignore her once she starts biting. Many times, we appeared to be cuddling Bobbe more often than Phoebe because she's always biting us. MIL will always carry Phoebe up to the sofa & say that she's such a poor thing that we favours Bobbe. MIL thinks that carrying Phoebe up to the sofa to play is making up to her, despite knowing that Phoebe likes to pee on sofa. We have washed the sofa covers about 6 times now.

INCIDENT 5
MIL thinks that we favours Bobbe. Whenever she sees Bobbe making a mistake, she will make a big fuss out of it & made sure we sees it. Then she will remind us that the real rascal is Bobbe, not all the time is Phoebe.

With all these incidents that happened on Bobbe & Phoebe, i can see how she will treat my kids in future.

Poo Eating Habits

It was Bobbe first. Now, Phoebe is also playing & eating poo. I have tried the SEP powder for a week & it seems to work on Bobbe, but not Phoebe. I tried to clear the poo as soon as I can but they seems to have the habit of poo-ing in the middle of the night. I can't even catch whose the culprit.

Filial?

Does staying apart from your parents means unfilial? Am I selfish to let a health hazardous old widow stay by herself? Should I live for myself & my marriage or live up to others expectation of putting up with my MIL?

My granny has 3 daughters. She has always stayed with my mum because the other 2 aunties are not as patience as my mum & cannot tolerate my granny's lifestyle habits. Ironically, granny treats the other daughters better because she don't get to argue with them abt how the laundry should be done. She looks forward to their monthly visits, cooks their favourite food & complains about my mum.

I had this idea of staying apart from my MIL but in the same block so we can still take care of her when the "real" need arises. I can imagine how our relationship can be better when we stay apart. She only comes have dinner in the evenings & goes back to her own place without disrupting us groping each other while doing the dishes. We can watch our favourite tv shows in our own living rooms. We can have big fights that are not because of his mum (how strange, we never have big fights of our own). We can have sex everywhere in the house.

I think most importantly, she can no longer hurt me & my marriage with her insensitive & inconsiderate behaviour. I better be mentally prepared to be a public enemy when we inform her of our decision after my delivery.

Btw, she asked Peter if my dogs are used to staying in Jurong. She did not asked about me. Arrggg.

Ran Away from Home

I have not been blogging for past 2 weeks because of my "problematic" pregnancy. I have declared war with my mum in law (MIL) & ran away from home last Sunday. I will be staying at my brother's place for 3 weeks, maybe.

Let me grumble here. My nuchal translucency test shows my baby's neck is slightly thicker than normal which has borderline risk of affecting by down syndrome or it could be cardiovascular health. MIL told me in my face that my pregnancy is problematic & she wonders if my side of the family has "problem". Having already told her my family has no history of down syndrome, yet she gave such comments. Enough of her insensitivity & disrespect throughout the years, I decided to show my displeasure by staying at my brother's place. Life's so good here. Granny & mum cooks my favourite food as often as they can. The last thing I thinks of is the detail scan I will be expecting at 5th month, which will be the ultimate result.

Bobbe has been staring at the door while I'm away so I went back to bring both of them to my mum's place. MIL was found to have red swollen eyes the day I brought the dogs away. She certainly misses my dogs, but not a single word abt me. Fine!

Anyway, Bobbe & Phoebe got used to my brother's place pretty quickly becos the cousins are friendly towards them. Unfortunately, they can only be let out to play in the evenings when my brother is back. I took their pee tray along & they can quickly identify where's their toilet.

Brought Phoebe for her 2nd vacination & Bobbe for those bumps on his body. It was food allergies. I was told not to feed them chicken & salmon. Was quite surprised that the vet mentioned salmon. She advised only white fish to be fed to them, however, no stingrays, tuna, sharkmeat & something else I cant remember ...

Phoebe suppose to be less active & have less appetite these 2 days but the vacination don't seems to have any effect on her! She's still so active & naughty. Anyway, she's now 2.3kg & Bobbe's 5.7kg.

Meet the Cousins Session

We had a session to let the cousins meet. Lilo & Nemo was barking aggressively behind the gate at first. After letting them sniffed each other, they became friendly. However, we were shocked when Lilo snapped ferociously at Nemo when he approached either of them for the first time. Lilo behaved as though she does not allow Nemo to come check out Phoebe & Bobbe, as if she was protecting them from Nemo. We tried separating Lilo & Nemo so that we can observed if Nemo displayed any aggression towards Phoebe & Bobbe. Nemo was avoided them at first but slowly warms up to them. At the end of the day, they mingled around comfortably without Lilo showing aggression towards Nemo.

Bobbe & Phoebe have gotten bored of chewing their toys so they started chewing slippers, especially when I'm out for lunch. And Phoebe will definitely leave a pool of pee with footprints all over the place. So today, I confined both of them in the kitchen with the pee tray. After 1.5 hrs, they managed to take out a major chunk of the pee pad. The mastermind is obviously Bobbe becos his muzzle had some cotton stuck on it. He received the most spanking.

I woke up at 3am & saw Phoebe's sleeping next to Bobbe's tummy. It was so sweet. Today, while bathing Phoebe, Bobbe kept poking at the glass door & Phoebe kept running to the door & whined like calling Bobbe for help. Whenever I give them biscuit for teabreak, Bobbe will sit aside & wait til Phoebe is done with the biscuits before eating the balance. I also noticed that whenever Phoebe whine, Bobbe will release his grip or bite. Regardless of all the fights, I think they get along.

Phoebe persistently tries to get Bobbe to play with her & finally, both are playing this evening. Once, Bobbe bit Phoebe's ear & she lets out a whimp. Then, Bobbe ran very fast & head straight towards Phoebe to knock her down. She don't look hurt when she overturned at the collision & got up to chased after Bobbe again. Another time, Bobbe was munching & "plucking" Phoebe's fur so violently I had to stop him! I'm glad they played but was concerned that Bobbe might accidently use too much strength on Phoebe. I will need to keep a close watch when both of them are playing.

Bobbe is very unfriendly towards Phoebe & at times, I worried for Phoebe's safety. Once, Bobbe jumped on Phobe's body from the sofa! Phoebe lets out a loud whimp & shocked everyone whose sitting on the sofa! Another time, he snapped at Phoebe because she was chasing after Bobbe to play. Bobbe turned around & bit her ear!
